Sat Nam from Dharamjot Kaur

Dharamjot Kaur in Lampini Park , Bangkok Thailand

One of the highlights of my trip to Thailand in April was going to Lampini Park at 5.30am to practice yoga near the lake. It was incredible to see so many people exercising so many different ways. It would be wonderful to see a Kundalini Yoga class offered in the park, if it is not yet available. I can imagine hundreds attending.

The purpose of this newsletter is to provide some regular communication for all Kundalini Yoga Teachers across Asia . We can cross promote events; we can talk about our own unique or commonly shared experiences. By keeping in touch we are becoming a closer community. What I am learning at the moment is we have our own strength inside but we also have God with us, the support of the golden chain of the teachings and each other. We are never alone.

One big issue about this newsletter is language! We speak so many languages in this region and I understand that English is not the first language for most of us. If anyone has any ideas on how we can offer an opportunity for other languages in this newsletter I would love to hear them. I am not sure if Gurumuhki would be a possibility!

I hope you enjoy the read and hope you might be inspired to include a few words in the next edition. I would love to see something from every country. If you think something is missing contribute it for the next edition.

The next issue is to go out mid September, so send your contributions by late August. My wish list includes: healthy recipes, CD and Book reviews, personal experiences, favorite Yogi Bhajan quotes and photos of your classes.

Please send contributions to Dharamjot Kaur ~ Chloe 61433 932 027 chloe.rubbo@gmail.com .

Kundalini Yoga in Sri Lanka

Fiona teaches at Galipita in Sri lanka

Anand Kaur & Shiv Charan Singh in Samadhi Centre Sri Lanka

Picture of Shiv teaching in Sri Lanka

We, Anand Kaur, Fiona Raymond and Cormac Davey (Raghu Rai Singh), are Kundalini Yoga teachers, living in the paradise Island of Sri Lanka . Anand Kaur arrived four and a half years ago settling in the costal town of Galle , where she opened a Yoga Studio. She now lives in Colombo with her family and is planning to develop a yoga retreat and wellness centre. Fiona returned with Cormac, her husband, to the island of her birth in July 2005 when Cormac got a job with an Irish organisation supporting the recovery from the Tsunami disaster. Fiona is a yoga teacher and business women. We are all social entrepreneurs and seek to link Kundalini awareness to business practices.

Together we have developed a small but dedicated Kundalini Yoga community and have classes in Colombo , the capital, on weekdays. We also organise retreats outside Colombo . Shiv Charan Singh and Sunder Singh Khalsa have visited Sri Lanka and run workshops. We plan to have a workshop in November 2007 with Sunder Singh. Shiv Charan will also be back regularly.

Meditation from an Island :

Fiona says,

I remember when I was first training to become a Kundalini Yoga teacher in Ecuador , my teacher Nam Nidan Kaur from Chile would do Sadhana and meditation with a look of ecstasy on her face and tears glimmering in her eyes. I would sometime struggle through meditations or Sadhana not really getting it, working hard on watching my thoughts but with no real devotion.

This changed however recently after attending a retreat with an amazing Scottish teacher called Shiv Charan Singh. Shiv is a master of numerology and by understanding my numbers better I have come to a deeper understanding of myself, my path and I have had an epiphany with my meditation practice. I now connect to my voice, the harmonium and through these mediums to my heart and feel uplifted and really devotional when doing my practice, which has made a real difference to my whole day. I feel more connected to my emotions, body and thoughts and can be more mindful of all. If you cannot connect and feel immediately uplifted by sound, visualise an amazing uplifting image it could be the Himalaya or Andes , being a bird flying upwards to the heavens. Whatever brings a lump to your throat! Sat Nam. Soars like a spiritual eagle.

Our vision is to create a common unity of yogis in Sri Lanka that can contribute to a positive change in consciousness. This we aim to achieve through the teachings of Kundalini Yoga, as taught by Yogi Bhajan and allowing students to flourish and become teachers themselves. We intend to run a two module intensive teacher training programme here in Sri Lanka in 2008. Our other retreats on this beautiful little discovered island of paradise will combine healthy eating, fasting, raw food and holistic treatments with Kundalini yoga and other forms of yoga.

We welcome all visitors to Sri Lanka , especially our new Kundalini Asia Common unity. We would like to encourage teachers from other countries to bring their teachings here. If you are interested please look at our website or contact us directly (see details below).

Singapore update

With great joy we finished the first Level 1 teacher certification course in Singapore in February. Many of the students then went on to enjoy a powerful, deep and transformational course in Thailand . The course has brought so much energy to the Singapore Kundalini Yoga community. Regular weekly classes are going on in Kuala Lumpur and we are excited to begin a level 1 course in Malaysia in 2007. There was a Women's and Men's camp in Kuantan , Malaysia , with wonderful teachers and a community of yogis held from 2-5 June.

We have also been blessed with so many other teachers to visit Singapore and Malaysia in the past few months, including Sunder Singh, Shiv Charan Singh, Guru Singh, Kirn Kaur, Jugat Guru Singh and many more. We look forward to more exciting teachers in the latter part of 2007.

White Tantric Yoga in Australia

Join us for the first White Tantric in Sydney on Saturday September 13, 2008.
No words can really explain the blissful feelings I had after my first experience of 3 days of White Tantric in the desert of New Mexico where over 1,200 of us gathered. It was an amazing experience, deeply meditative, physically and mentally challenging, transformative and life changing. We sat opposite each other in long lines, connected to the subtle body of Yogi Bhajan, the Mahan Tantric. The diagonal tantric energy was powerful and uplifting, and looking into your partners eyes you just feel this amazing soul to soul connection, without gender, the other person becomes you, you see all, in them and then reflected in your self. As Yogi Bhajan says “the eyes are the window of the soul”. White Tantric can be experienced by everyone, not just Kundalini Yoga Teachers, but it is very helpful if you practice Kundalini Yoga regularly.

The Way of the Gong

“The gong is the first and last instrument for the human mind, there is only one thing that can supersede and command the human mind, the sound of the gong.”

Yogi Bhajan, Master of Kundalini yoga

Having recently returned from Perth where I was continuing my training with Gong Master Don Conreaux from New York , who was an original student of Yogi Bhajan, I thought I would share with you my experience of what the Gong represents for me and provide a few ideas about how to approach the Gong.

The Gong reproduces a Holophonic and Morphogenetic (Light and sound) field which is the exact replica of the living Infinite Cosmos, this creates the Merkaba, the light /sound vehicle based on Sacred Geometry and PHI the universal principal that operates and substantiates the building of all form 1.618033989

So when we play the gong we are playing the entire universe and as such we need to invite the gong to speak as a Guru, as our teacher

Yogi Bhajan says that we must offer up 3 Mantras before we start

The Adi Mantra: ong namo guroo deyv namo

Mangala Charan Mantra: aad guray nameh, jugaad gurey nameh, sat gurey nameh siree guroo dayv-ay nameh

And the Kundalini Shakti Mantra: aad such, jugaad such, haibhee such, naanak hosee bhee such

When we start to play, strike the gong randomly with the mallet, without thought

Feel how it's intensity builds and falls, feel as if the gong is playing you, this can sometimes be a struggle but eventually you surrender and we attain whole brain synchronicity

When we play:

•  establish a centre of quiet stillness

•  try not to concentrate

•  Be non judgemental and consider all things are perfect just as they are and acknowledge that all feelings are equal to each other and present in your consciousness at any one time

•  Feel that distance does not exist anywhere

If anyone has any comments or questions that I may or may not be able to answer please feel free to contact me and I can include in the next newsletter

Message from Sunder Singh

Sunder Singh at the conference

(Reprint of email sent in May)

To the Asian Kundalini Yoga Community;

By the Grace of the Master, Sat Nam and Greetings.

I want to take this opportunity to tell you some of the exciting new developments pertaining to Asia .

As you know we are having the Asian Yoga Festival from Nov. 25 th to 30 th , 2008, in Bangkok , Thailand , with White Tantric on the 29 th .  Gurucharan Singh , KRI Director of Training, will be coming as well as other senior trainers from the US . I am also inviting BibiJi, the wife of Yogi Bhajan, to grace us with her presence. I believe Guru Ganesha Singh and Snatam Kaur will be coming but that has not yet been confirmed. Gurucharan Singh and I will lead the Mind and Meditation Level II module during the week before the Yoga Festival.

My goal is to finish all five level II modules by the end of 2009. I am pleased and encouraged by the deep listening and sharing that occurred at the Authentic Relationships course.

As for this year, I am planning a training tour of Asia from Oct. 17 th thru Nov. 7 th 2007. I plan to lead with the Conscious Communication Level II module in Thailand , and a retreat in Malaysia . Otherwise my schedule is still open. If you are interested in organizing an event in your area please contact me and/or the Thailand training group.

We are also organizing the three-week format of Level 1 teacher training. It works like this: one week of classes followed by a two-month break (with homework and assimilation of material), and then another week of classes followed by another break, and so on. The whole program will run for approximately five months. There will also be an intensive for deep experience of the teachings during the program.

Other news in the area:

1. Shanghai : Angad Kaur is now finishing the first KRI teacher training in China and I will be leading a retreat as part of the program from May 18 th to 20 th .  All are welcome. If interested contact Angad Kaur at Rebeclo@yahoo.com .

2. Sri Lanka : I am interested in conducting a Kundalini Yoga intensive in the Fall of this year. Next year we would like to offer Level 1 training in the three-week format. Shiv Charan Singh, a very insightful trainer from the UK will be working together with us.

3. Malaysia : Rajveer and Christine, two of our trainers in Singapore , will be starting teacher training in Kuala Lumpur sometime this year. I see a big potential there.

4. Japan : Sada Anand Singh is now a certified professional level trainer. Congratulations! I am also inviting some of the Japanese teachers to join the program as interns and associate teacher trainers. By the Grace of the Infinite, we will have teacher training in Japan soon.

5. Taiwan : Since I was born in Taipei and grew up there, I am interested in teaching there. Whenever the time is right.

6. Australia : Gurujivan Kaur, the lead trainer in Australia , is working with KRI to develop other trainers in Australia . As coordinator of teacher training in Asia, I will be involved in that process. So there is a chance that I might visit Australia .

7. Israel : Although not a part of Asia , I have been invited by Ronit to teach there. I would like to honor her sincerity. The Spring of 2008 may be a possible time.

As to those who have sent me emails from the retreat and Authentic Relationships course, your emails have been received and read with gratitude even if I didn't answer individually.

Sat Nam to the Authentic Self within that sees all through the eyes of Oneness.

Level 2 Teacher Training: Authentic Relationships.
I went to Thailand in April to complete the first module of Level 2, Authentic Relationships with Sunder Singh.
Sunder taught in a very beautiful and experiential way, it was a magical and mystical journey into the divine within me, the divine in everyone, deeply from the heart, this opening to our authentic self, and then to see ourselves reflected in all our relationships. The course was a six day intensive, very powerful, and opened me to the realisation that to be truly authentic I must know myself deeply, love and accept myself in my humanness, that my first relationship is to my soul, to my higher self, and then it opens to all.
“A teacher is not a neither a saint nor a perfect person. A teacher is a ‘stillpoint' that engenders transformation and that uplifts all” - Yogi Bhajan

Kundalini yoga conference

Kundalini Yoga Teachers and Students from around Asia

With great excitement I arrived in Bangkok to attend the International Workshop “communication and the mind” in Thailand just a short distance from Bangkok in a Catholic Seminary. As I jumped in the taxi the driver told me it was too far and it would cost extra. I did not care and agreed to his price. Nothing was keeping me away from this 3 day intensive Kundalini Yoga experience.

When I arrived at Baan Phu Waan, a Catholic seminary and conference centre for spiritually focused events, I was greeted with warmth and enthusiasm from the staff and also the conference organizers. It felt like I was coming home. During the lead up to the conference the organizers had done everything possible to help make my arrival a smooth one. It felt nice to be with my extended Kundalini Yoga family!

After dinner I went straight to bed so I would be all fresh and sprightly for the 4am morning practice. During the night my room mate Annand arrived after a big journey from Sri Lanka , her journey was complete with lost luggage and threats of airport bombings. I was so thankful she had arrived safely.

The first morning Sadhana I joined the participants who had just completed the 6 day Level 2 module ‘Authentic Relationships'. Each morning they had been practicing long Ek Ong Kaars for an hour. It felt wonderful to be amongst such a strong group. Sadhana concluded with a breath walk around the lake at our own leisure. After sadhana everything looked so alive and magical.

After breakfast the International Asia Region Teachers Meeting commenced. It was a meeting for teachers and student teachers to prepare a vision for our community in Asia and an opportunity to practice meditations to strengthen our link with the Golden Chain.

Sunder Singh guided us through a meditation and asked us big questions about who we are, why are we teachers etc. He masterfully moved us back and forth from developing our individual consciousness to developing our group consciousness which really helped to feel and clarify soul direction to the universal consciousness.

It is difficult to explain the meditations as I did not write them down, so I will share the group activities, as it involves all of us here in Australia .

We had to write our own personal mission statement. A good statement is concise, engages the heart and serves as a touchstone of all actions as a teacher.

We were invited to share our statements to the group. Each statement was unique and wonderful soulful missions that were shared with strength and passion. I was in a room of beautiful glowing teachers that all spoke straight from their hearts.

My mission statement is “Sat Nam - To live and find my own truth and empower others to live and find their own truth so their souls can shine bright like the sun.”

This was a wonderful exercise as it helped clarify my business name – Shine Bright Yoga.

I will no doubt always be referring back to this statement to ensure I am working from my heart. It is a simple exercise and I encourage you to take the time to write a few sentences about your mission as a teacher. What is your mission?

We then were asked to write down a few words about what is already working in the Kundalini Yoga community in Asia (ten words max). We could all find many reasons why it is working this included the teachings, committed group of teachers, the need, diversity and Sunder Singh.

Then we were asked to write down what our vision for Kundalini Yoga in Asia was.

The common themes that emerged were:

•  Communication

•  Society – making sure the teachings are financially accessible, raising funds for scholarships etc

•  Developing Centres – discussed the needs for a central location that would assist with administration and offer a place for beginner teachers to practice etc.

•  Spirit – keeping in the purity of the teachings

•  Global Healing Community – working with indigenous communities, being environmentally aware, sending healing prayers and passing on values to our children.

As I am writing this I can include what I wrote – I thought it should be FUN! When I read this out it was greeted to a roar of laughter. I personally think it is important that we don't have our serious Kundalini Yoga turbans on all the time! It is so much easier to practice something that we find joy in.

I was in the breakout group to discuss communications we all agreed that we need systems in place to communicate. We had a very fruitful brainstorm that came up with the following actions:

•  Developing a mailing list of all Kundalini Yoga Teachers in each country

•  Website – Asking each country to display the links of all Asian KY websites

•  Social events

•  Country contact people that will distribute news and events to all in country (2-3 per country)

•  Promotion of workshops

•  Newsletter for the region

•  A formal communication chain to be developed with Sunder Singh and 3HO

To finish off the meeting we all said a sentence on what our own intention is to help achieve the Kundalini Yoga Association in Asia .

I put my hand up for the newsletter! So get your contributions in to chloe.rubbo@gmail.com

Our theme song for the weekend became

Victory to the Soul (Celestial Communication)

I am not the doer (Hands in closed fists at side of the body)

I am the mission (Hands at heart centre)

The Infinite in me manifests (Hands out at a 60 degree angle)

What I envision (Hands in prayer pose)

Victory to the Soul!

After the meeting I was buzzing from the power that the group had generated and linking in to the golden chain – it really felt like my teachers Gurujivan and Billie (both in Melbourne at the time) were with me. It was an incredible start to a very powerful and transformational weekend.

Kundalini Yoga Meditation Healing Circle

As a small part of our Monday morning sadhana we could join together and practice a healing meditation for those in need.

We can combine our energy and commitment to help create a world of peace, light and love. Practicing together will also provide an opportunity for those that feel isolated to connect in with other teachers.

The following meditation to heal all sickness is the one we will start with. Simply practice it on Mondays for 11 minutes as part of your sadhana.

If you would like to join this healing circle please email chloe.rubbo@gmail.com your name and email address and include anyone else that you would like us to heal.

I will collate a list of members and we can send out a healing vibration to each other, Adi Shakti and anyone else you would like to include.

Meditation to heal all sickness

Taught by Yogi Bhajan 4/24/79

To heal all energies and all sickness. This meditation deals with the Vayu Siddhi. It will cause that faculty to be totally enlarged, to become healthier, and to bring all desirable, positive changes.

How to do it:
Sit in easy pose with a straight spine. Relax the arms down by the sides of the body with the elbows bent. Raise the forearms up and in toward the chest until the hands meet at the level of the heart. With both palms facing up, cross the hands and the thumbs so that the right hand is resting in the left and the right thumb crosses over the left. The fingers are relaxed, slightly bent, and point away from the body at an angle. The thumbs touch the palms.
Close the eyes nine-tenths.
Inhale completely, then exhale completely as you chant RAA MA DAA SA SAA SAY SO HUNG
This needs pranic energy; be sure to chant with your full breath and full strength. You will find your voice going down after a few minutes.

Practice to maintain the full blast at a constant pitch.

Meditate for 11 minutes. When you can keep the full-blast pitch constant gradually increase to a maximum of 31 minutes. It will take 3 to 7 years to achieve this.

Tentative Dates for Kundalini Yoga Events in Asia

At the conference it was discussed that each country would have a representative to collate enrolments into the courses. Please let us know if you are interested in being the contact person in your country.
